Daughters of Union Veterans Programs and Membership
On May 5, 2021, the Daughters of Union Veterans (DUV) held their national conference in St. Louis, MO. Lynne Jackson was the luncheon speaker. To her surprise, she was given an honorary membership to the DUV nominated by Joan Koechig and given by Dr. Sandra K. Millin, National President. The event was held at the Hilton Frontenac. From that she was invited by Carol Comp, President Oklahoma Department to the Oklahoma Department DUVCW Convention. On May 21, 2022 she will be the guest speaker in Oklahoma City with Tent President, Lauri Womack.. The DUV have chapters around the country and welcome membership to any whose ancestors are vetted to have fought in the Union for the Civil War. Many women who are DUV are also DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) from whom Ms. Jackson has received 3 awards for sharing the history and having now a long standing relationship with these organizations going back to the first meeting in Chesterfield, MO in 2007.

The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation has been notified and is proud to announce a grant of $65,000 has been designated to the foundation for the construction of The Dred Scott Memorial Monument at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, MO from the Mellon Foundation Monuments Project.
$250 million was committed by the Mellon Foundation to transform the nation’s commemorative landscape by supporting public projects that more completely and accurately represent the multiplicity and complexity of American stories. We are most grateful to the Mellon Foundation for their vision to foresee how their support can impact organizations like ours and help create new and lasting legacies to the histories of our country, some which had not been understood until these times.
The Dred Scott Memorial Monument will be constructed on the current grave site of Mr. Scott at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis. Plans are for a 9-foot-tall black granite monument facing the cemetery road. The monument will include column ornamentation with space for etching, design, the image of Dred Scott and a detailed history. A patio area with benches will be included where people can sit and meditate to understand how important Dred Scott was to the history of the United States of America.
For 90 years, at Calvary and 9 years prior at Wesleyan Cemetery, he laid in an unmarked grave.
When built, the Dred Scott Memorial Monument will continue to recognize Dred Scott’s place in history and to inform future generations of what enslaved African Americans endured in their fight for freedom and justice.
Dred Scott’s grave is among the top three most requested sites at the cemetery by visitors from all walks of life. The new memorial will be a fitting destination for those seeking this history, a place of pilgrimage and for lovers of American history. It will fulfill each of the foundation’s goals of Commemoration, Education and Reconciliation.

DAR MEDALS AWARDED TO DRED SCOTT DESCENDANT FOR HISTORY PRESERVATION
On April 17, 2021, the National Daughters of the American Revolution presented the National History Award Medal to Lynne Jackson. The Webster Groves Chapter nominated and vetted her for this as well as for the DAR Women in American History Medal. Thanks to Susan Favazza, Past Chapter Regent, Sylvia Stoll, Anita Motz, Chapter Regent and Caroline Green Chapter Historian for the intense work to make this happen. Ms. Sylvia Stoll was extraordinarily diligent to vet the process to get approval from the Historian General. Jackson is only the 8th person in Missouri to receive this highly vetted award in 40 years, since 1981 which she received with extreme gratitude for the recognition of her work in the Foundation.
In 2016, Lynne received the National Medal of Honor from President General Lynn Forney Young.
The DAR and DUV continue to request historical presentations from the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation and they seek to continue to reconcile our histories. There are many African American members and chapters of the DAR around the country.

Lindbergh Blvd, in St. Louis, MO. This year, our Honorary Chairman is Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg, producer of the 3-part PBS documentary on the Constitution. A More or Less Perfect Union was released on January 25, 2020 and features Lynne M. Jackson (Dred Scott), Keith Plessy (Homer Plessy), and Phoebe Ferguson (John Ferguson).

A CALL FOR RACIAL HEALING & RECONCILIATION ON THE 160TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DRED SCOTT DECISION Monday, March 6, 2017
THE EVENT
On Monday, March 6, 2017, at 11:30 am, the 160th anniversary of the Dred Scott decision, there will be a historic apology made for The Dred Scott Decision at The Robert Brooke Taney statue in front of the Maryland State House. The Descendants of both former Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney and The Dred Scott family are coming together on March 6th for two reasons. First, to reconfirm the reconciliation of the Scotts and Taneys, with accompanying apology and forgiveness. Second, to speak against the removal of the Roger Brooke Taney statue Maryland State Capitol Grounds. Instead, they see an opportunity for reconciliation via the erection of statues of Dred Scott and Frederick Douglass to stand in a position of dialogue with Roger Brooke Taney, along with an educational display on the Dred Scott decision and its aftermath. And, they will help raise the funds for the Dred Scott statue. The Scotts and Taneys believe that Americans should learn from their history, not bury their history.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution gave their highest award, the Medal of Honor to Dred Scott’s great-great granddaughter at their regional Conference in St. Charles, MO.. Lynne Jackson accepted the award stating that she was more thrilled at the giving than the receiving and was happy to receive it in the spirit of reconciliation that the DAR afforded in bestowing this honor. Mrs. Joan Koechig of the St. Charles Chapter Nominated her and State Regent, Morgan Lake, presented the medal and certificate with President General, Lynn Forney Young.
